Your laptop may have come with an AirPort or AirPort Extreme wireless card pre-installed. To see if AirPort is already installed, open Network Preferences and look for AirPort in the Show drop-down menu. If you do not see AirPort there, you may need to purchase and install a wireless card before you can connect to the Allegheny wireless.
To begin using a wireless internet connection on campus, bring your laptop to a wireless location and turn it on. If AirPort is not already turned on, select Turn AirPort On from the AirPort status indicator in the menu bar.

(If you do not see an AirPort status indicator on the menu bar, open Internet Connect from the Applications Folder, click the AirPort icon, and select Show AirPort status in menu bar.)
With AirPort turned on, you can select the Allegheny_Wireless network from the AirPort status indicator on the menu bar.

Open a web browser and attempt to access any web site.
You will see the Allegheny network registration page. This is the same page you used to register your laptop in the residence hall. Because you are now connecting wirelessly for the first time, you need to register again. You will only need to do this the first time you use an Allegheny wireless connection. Note: if you already have two computers registered on the Allegheny Residence network, please call the Help Desk at 2755 for assistance before attempting to register for a wireless connection.
After submitting the registration form and restarting your computer you will be able to browse the web, read email, ftp, etc just as if you were connected in your room. The next time you bring your laptop to any Allegheny wireless location you will be able to use the internet immediately, without going through the registration process again.
You can print to a public printer, such as those in Pelletier Library and the Caflisch 24/7 lab. See our wireless printing instructions to set up printing to these printers.
If you are having trouble using the Campus Center wireless connection, please bring your laptop to the Help Desk in Murray Hall (M-F, 8 am - 5 pm) or call the Help Desk at 2755 for assistance.
